Review of Tarte’s Energy Noir Clay Pallet

I had been considering buying a better eyeshadow to carry in my purse when I saw Tarte’s new pallet and immediately fell in love. It wasn’t just the moon-inspired mood it evoked, but the colors were perfect for creating a variety of looks. I snatched it up from Sephora (it’s only for VIB and VIB rouge at the moment) and was not disappointed.

IMG_3377The colors are richly infused with moonlit shimmers — even the dark greys have dimension thanks to the shine. The high-lighter color, Crystal Spark, has turned out to be my favorite thanks to its beautiful gold cast which can be used on the face as well (or at least I used it on my face).

These colors are heavily pigmented and gave an intense true-to-color look with very few brush strokes. We’ve all had eyeshadows that need layer upon layer to have any sort of color payoff; this is not that. The blush is surprisingly flattering on me, it is much cooler than it seems in the official description and photos on Sephora.

I love Tarte (as I’ve said before) because it’s a cruelty free brand that avoids petrochemicals and has some green company practices. I tried both of the “looks” that they suggest, and I was surprised by how much I liked the day look, which was shimmery and light. The night look was not quite dark enough for me, but with black hair and pale skin, I need a little more dramatic contrast for shadows to show up on me. I’ll certainly be able to make my own smokey look with this pallet, so it worries me not. Here are two photos, one taken in my well-lit room, and the other taken in the car (bad lighting).

Overall, I would suggest this pallet for anyone who likes strolling in graveyards, watching the moon rise, or dancing to Lana Del Rey.
