I got this mask in a sample bag as part of the VIB Rouge buying event at Sephora. I didn’t know what to expect, but this has turned out to be one of the very few overnight masks that I don’t consider a complete rip off. Usually, this kind of mask mask feels like a re-labled moisturizers, giving little to no additional benefits for double the price. This actually left my face looking clear and feeling quenched for a days after its application.
The first time I cracked this open was after a day of not taking meticulous care of my skin, leaving it looking dull and tired. To my surprise, I woke up to a clarified, moisturized face. I was impressed with the immediate results; yet, disappointed when I looked at the ingredient list.
It’s true that Vitamin C and Rose oil have been proven to help the skin. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that fights free radicals and according to the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, it can increase the effectiveness of your sunscreen and help your skin block UV radiation. It also reduces dark spots and redness. Rose water is conditioning, helping skin cells stay hydrated.
Neither of these featured ingredients appear in the first half of the ingredient list.
It is primarily aloe juice, glycerin, and beeswax; good ingredients, these moisturize and prolong the effects of said moisture. It’s annoying that the advertised reasons for its success is so different than the truth, especially when I like the practical effects. Were this advertised correctly, as a beeswax and aloe mask, I wouldnt’ hesitate to buy a full bottle.
I’ve tried many so-called overnight masks, and most of them reveal themselves to only be repackaged night creams. This is one of the first products I’ve tried that delivers more than the average night moisturizer (which is still important on any other day).
I have since finished my small bottle, and I’m considering repurchasing the full size. I love masks and peels in the sort, there is a certain appeal to special weekly products that I’m drawn to. They may not be necessary but I like taking extra care of my skin once in a while. I’m still not sure about the quality of this mask, yet I liked what it did to my skin. It certainly couldn’t hurt my skin, but it would my wallet. Perhaps this will remain as a solid “plan B” as my search for a great overnight mask continues.
